SAFER streets are being demanded by Lib Dems at County Hall.

Group leader Cllr Sue Proctor (Boughton Heath & Vicars Cross) and Hoole & Newton Cllr Molly Hale raised the motion at a meeting of the full council.

They say: “Much damage to footways and verges is caused by parked vehicles. Such damage can result in falls by pedestrians. Utilities can also be damaged.

“Parking on footways and verges hinders pedestrians of all ages including children, people with baby buggies and wheelchairs and those with visual impairment.

“Pedestrians are forced to take risks by using the road rather than the footway if the footway is blocked.”

They have called on the council to implement a road safety campaign “aimed at raising awareness of the difficulties caused by badly parked vehicles on footways and verges.”
