THE annual Something Blooming Special competition has been launched, with a new category to motivate budding gardeners.

Entrants are asked for the first time to create floral displays in recycled containers and the first 100 applications received for this category will be given a free tray of annual bedding plants.

The competition sponsor, Burleydam Garden Centre in Childer Thornton, is offering the plants to encourage lots of entries and creative use of waste materials.

Buyrleydam manager Adrian Cornelissen said: “We are hoping to see lots of colourful floral displays and we are setting a challenge by asking people to use recycled containers to showcase their gardening skills.”

Within Cheshire West and Chester Council, Greenspace team members are working with locality team members to help promote environmental projects in gardens, villages and towns.

Cllr Eleanor Johnson said: “The judges will be looking for the most imaginative displays and I am looking forward to seeing the results.”

Application forms are available at www.talkingwestcheshire.org/somethingbloomingspecial or at libraries and council buildings.
