THE WI girls did it - now the boys from Audlem have produced their own topless calendar!

A dozen brave boys from the village have bared their torsos to raise money for their friend Jamie Brookes, who lost an arm in a car accident.

They hope the sale of the calendar - available now in the village shops - will help Jamie to raise the £15,000 needed to buy a prosthetic arm, so that he can return to a near normal life.

The 32-year-old father-of-four, who lives in Daisy Bank Crescent, Audlem, lost his right arm in an accident in May as he was on his way for a game of golf in Newport.

His love of the game has not diminished and he hopes he will be back on the course as soon as the artificial arm is fitted.

He said: 'I don't know how the idea of the calendar actually happened. It just seemed to come up in a conversation I was having with a group of friends.

'The more we talked about it the more it seemed to become a real possibility, and we just went for it. I think in the first place it was the idea of some of the wives.

'It was a great laugh having all the pictures done, in a farmer's field at Sound, and I hope people buy it to see the village men as they have never seen them before!'

Jamie's wife, Lynn, said: 'All the wives know each other and we got talking about the WI calendar which the ladies from Yorkshire did a few years ago, and we thought it would be a laugh if we got the men from the village to do the same.'

Julia Turner, who has helped to organise several fundraising events for Jamie, said: 'Everyone in the village is talking about it.

'Let's hope they all go out and buy it.

'June will be a very good month - it features my husband Paul!'

The calendar is on sale for £6 in a number of Audlem shops including the Salad Bowl and the chip shop, and will also be available at the school Christmas fair on Saturday.
