A Chester five-piece which specialises in atmospheric experimental rock and innovative live  shows has got big plans for 2014.

Chemistry Lane kick off a busy year ahead by supporting label-mates  65daysofstatic at The Live Rooms on  Tuesday, January 14, with another show at Telford’s Warehouse on Thursday, January 30.

Singer and guitarist Simon Jones  said: “We are immensely proud and  excited to be supporting 65daysofstatic and are currently arranging gigs for 2014 across the country.  Victoria Warehouse Records are also organising a tour for the bands on the label  to take place later in the year.

“We hope to continue to play with bands of this calibre and are putting  our efforts into producing three  unique music videos, as well as recording our debut album for the label  for early autumn.”

The five friends from Chester self-released two EPs before being signed to Manchester label Victoria Warehouse  Records in April, 2013.

Label founder Danny Hambrook offered to sign them shortly after they got off stage at the launch gig of their second EP.

“There was no bigger compliment for our set and the hard work we'd put  in than signing with a label committed to alternative artists,” Simon  said.

The band’s eclectic taste in music -  ranging from electronica to indie rock  - provides the inspiration for their  ‘experimental’ style, which Simon describes as ‘thick walls of sound,  groove and hypnotic melody’.

Simon is optimistic about the city’s music scene: “With the emergence of  new venues like The Live Rooms, as well as the drive of individual promoters and bands themselves, the music scene has probably never been  in a healthier position to push itself  kicking and screaming further afield  from that of pub-band culture.

“Chester in the past has felt consigned to the realms of small city  syndrome, but getting to know some  of the people involved in putting on  interesting nights or bands who favour the alternative, gives you a sense of hope that Chester can continue to  expand in this vein.”
