A bus service serving communities in Northwich has been rescued following discussions with Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Network Warrington Bus Company has agreed to divert some of its journeys through the villages of Lostock Gralam, Wincham, Higher Marston and Great Budworth, after GHA Coaches announced it will stop running the number 45 bus service between Northwich and Warrington.

The withdrawal of the GHA service had been met with concern by some residents.

Lifeline

Cllr Brian Clarke, cabinet member for economic development and infrastructure, said: “Not everyone has access to a car, and public transport is a lifeline for many residents in rural areas who need to get to work, shops, medical appointments, school and college.

“I am delighted that Network Warrington has agreed to provide a service on this route.”

Network Warrington will provide five journeys a day in each direction on the route.

David Blainey, operations director for Network Warrington Bus Company, added: “Our buses have been operating services between Warrington and Northwich for a long time, and we look forward to continuing to serve people living in this area of mid Cheshire again.”
