A lane has been closed northbound on the A41 Liverpool Road in Backford while Dee Valley Water engineers work to reinstate the water supply to homes in Backford in Mollington.

The lane will be closed between Moston Garage traffic lights and the Station Road junction during this evening's peak travel period (Wednesday, December 10) and motorists are advised to expect delays.

Water supply to around 1,600 properties in Backford and Mollington has been affected by a burst water mains near Backford Bridge.

After the burst at 4pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, December 10), residents reported low water pressure or no water at all.

An alternative supply was implemented this morning but engineers are still working to repair the burst.

A spokesperson for Dee Valley Water said: "Initially there were around 1,600 properties that had a disruption with their water supply.

"What we have done is rigged up a system where we bypass the burst.

"Everyone is back on supply but around 300 properties are probably getting a reduction in pressure.

"We hope to get everything back to normal by 4.30pm this afternoon.

"However, that will not mean that the burst will be repaired by then. It means that we have run a temporary mains around the burst.  It will take a while to repair that."

Marie Bradley, from Backford, said that the water at her home went off at around 5pm yesterday and they had to buy bottled water from a supermarket.
