FIREFIGHTERS will be aiming to hit a fundraising goal in a football tournament this weekend.

The Burning Issue magazine has organised a seven-a-side tournament, with 20 teams of firefighters involved. Teams will consist of seven players and a maximum of two substitutes.

The event, sponsored by B and M Waste Services, is taking place on Saturday at Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton Recreation Centre.

The tournament forms part of a family fun day which will also include a hog roast, a bouncy castle and an appearance from a 40ft inflatable fire engine – the largest one in the country.

Brett Tudor, of Burning Issue, said the event was all for a good cause.

He said: “All the proceeds of the event will be going to the UK Firefighters Charity, which helps care for injured firefighters who are hurt during the course of their duties.”

The family fun day begins at 9am, with the first match scheduled to kick off at 10am.
