BETH Tweddle has been named as one of three medal-winning Olympians to switch on the Blackpool illuminations next week.

The Bunbury bronze medal-winning gymnast will join long jump champion Greg Rutherford and boxing bantamweight gold star Luke Campbell for the annual ceremony watched by thousands.

Past celebrities to switch on the famous parade lights display include David Tennant, Robbie Williams and the Bee Gees.

Beth said: “I’m really looking forward to turning the lights on in Blackpool at the end of the month. It is going to be an amazing night and something special as I am a local North West girl.

“I hope everyone can join us for what is going to be a fab evening.”

This year marks the centenary of Blackpool illuminations and the switch-on will be held on The Tower Festival Headland for the first time.

Star music guests who will be performing on the night include X-Factor-winning band Little Mix, Lemar, Amy MacDonald, Paloma Faith and Scouting For Girls.

Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to be welcoming such an incredible group of people to officially switch on the lights.”
