BUILDING work has begun on a £220,000 scheme to improve facilities at Kelsall Methodist Church.

Services will still be held on site in the school room while the work is carried out in the church.

The scheme will transform the church into a rural arts centre making it easier to stage concerts, plays and show films.

Fixed pews at the Chapel Bank church will be replaced with moveable comfortable chairs on a single level.

And there are plans for a modern audio-visual system and better lighting. A new access ramp and handrails will be installed for the foyer entrance with improvements to the original entranceway used for weddings and funerals including glazed side panels to generate more light.

A doorway from the church to the hall will be reopened to make it easier to pass between the two buildings as well as providing access for wheelchair users and pushchairs onto a single level platform across the front of the church.

Services take place on the first Sunday of the month at 10.30am and 6.30pm, the second Sunday at 10.30am, the third Sunday for communion at 9am and an all age service at 10.30am, and the fourth Sunday at 10.30am.
