WEST Cheshire College’s Building a Difference development – a £65 million investment to provide world class learning facilities in Chester and Ellesmere Port – is set to lay the foundations for future careers for students.
Contractors BAM are offering work placements to construction students to give them a chance to experience first-hand the daily life of a major building project.
The ‘Day in a Life of’ programme will see students shadowing project managers, site managers, fire safety engineers and even the site nurse
In addition, brickwork students are being offered a chance to shadow the professionals and see them in action through a series on demonstrations, as well as taking part in a brickwork competition.
Deputy Principal Penny Horsefield said: "This will be the beginning of a series of activities which will see students who may have finished their courses before we move into the new buildings to nevertheless benefit from the investment in a major development on campus.
"On site construction works cover a broad range of curriculum areas so we hope to get as many students involved as possible.
"One of the highlights proposed is Builders’ Bistro when our catering students will take over the onsite catering facilities for a day."
