A PUBGOER went home to fetch his car after being refused service at a McDonald’s drive-thru because he was on foot – and was arrested for drink-driving.
Graham Read, 39, was stopped by police on his way home after buying the fast food at the second attempt from McDonald’s at Broughton Shopping Park.
At Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold Read, of Devonshire Road in Broughton, admitted being more than twice the drink-drive limit.
Deputy district judge Mark Layton fined him £100 with £100 costs. Read was banned from driving for 20 months.
Matthew Ellis, prosecuting, said police spotted a Ford Mondeo pulling out of the McDonald’s car park in the early hours of March 25.
Officers followed him on to the A5014 Chester Road and stopped him, and he gave a positive breath test.
Phillip Marshall-Thomas, defending, said: “They refused to give him food because he was not the driver of a car.
“Stupidly he decided to go home, which was not far away, and pick up his car.
“He drove back and was able to order his food.
“It was due to his foolish actions that he was caught by the police, who stopped him as he pulled away.”
