Drivers are hitting delays on both directions of the M53 this morning (Friday, November 4).
A lane had been closed on each side of the carriageway due to separate incidents near junction 9 for Ellesmere Port.
Officers investigating the murder of Ellia Arathoon needed to seal off an area close to the M53 northbound.
Police advised a lane would be shut most of the morning.
A vehicle then broke down on the southbound side between junctions 8 and 9 at about 11am.
Queues stretched back as far as junction 6 for Vauxhall before the blocked lane was reopened at about 12.15pm.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Heavy traffic has also spilled over onto Stanney Lane, between the town centre and Cheshire Oaks.
Craig Andrew Proctor, 39, of Shephard Close, Ellesmere Port, refused to leave his cell to face the charge of murdering Ms Arathoon at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
The 29-year-old from Ellesmere Port has not been seen since October 28.
