Drivers are hitting delays on both directions of the M53 this morning (Friday, November 4).

A lane had been closed on each side of the carriageway due to separate incidents near junction 9 for Ellesmere Port.

Officers investigating the murder of Ellia Arathoon needed to seal off an area close to the M53 northbound.

Police advised a lane would be shut most of the morning.

A vehicle then broke down on the southbound side between junctions 8 and 9 at about 11am.

Queues stretched back as far as junction 6 for Vauxhall before the blocked lane was reopened at about 12.15pm.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
