A CHORISTER whose angelic voice won the nation’s hearts on a TV talent show will charm Helsby’s music lovers this week.

Andrew Johnston reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2008, wowing judges with his treble performance of Pie Jesu.

After finishing third, he went on to release an album on Simon Cowell’s label Syco, climbing to number four in the UK album chart.

Now a 17-year-old baritone studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Andrew will perform a selection of songs at a ‘Musical Evening’ at St Paul’s Church tomorrow (Friday).

He will be accompanied by friend, music teacher and organist John Bromley. John now lives in Carlisle, but spent more than 40 years in Frodsham and was organist at St Paul’s until the mid-1980s.

St Paul’s organist Tony Green will also be performing, playing a programme of easy listening music.

The concert will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6, including refreshments, and all proceeds will go to the church. For more information, telephone the church on 01928 722151.
