BRIT award winner Emeli Sande will perform at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire in front of celebrity guests which could include Coleen Rooney and Freddie Flintoff.

The Scottish singer-songwriter is the first of two headline acts to be confirmed for the Cheshire venue’s upcoming relaunch Party.

The star-studded event, which takes place on Thursday, February 16, has been organised to mark the end of the £6m rebuilding works following last year’s arson attack on the castle.

Emeli, who will perform at Peckforton just days before being presented with a coveted Critics’ Choice Brit Award, celebrated her first number one last year when she collaborated with Professor Green on the track Read All About It.

The castle has issued invites to not only Coleen Rooney – wife of Manchester United star Wayne – and national cricket hero Freddie Flintoff, but also Alex Curran, Jamie Redknapp and the cast of Coronation Street – who are all friends of the hotel, wedding, conference and events venue.

Peckforton Castle owner Chris Naylor said he was “very excited” about the event and is “pulling out all the stops” to show that the venue is back and stronger than ever.

Four of the damaged bedrooms, the long gallery bar and library function room have already reopened.

The castle’s largest function room, the drawing room – where the fire was started – and the remaining 10 bedrooms will be reopened next month to coincide with the relaunch party.

The blaze was started deliberately by Max Henry Kay, 36, of Hunts Cross, Liverpool, in the early hours of Sunday, June 19, having got married at the castle the day before.

He pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered at Chester Crown Court in December.

Kay is due to be sentenced on Friday, February 3.
