A GROUP of talented musicians raised more than £2,600 for charities as they played their swan song gig after six years together.

CP's Blues Band features 16 former Tarporley High School pupils, who formed in 1999.

With the help of music teacher Jill Percival (née Grimshaw) the band incorporated the talents of other pupils and became a regular act at school and community events.

As members left school for university the band performed only during holidays, but this year they decided to disband, as the last Tarporley pupil prepared to go to university.

The band played their final, sell-out gig at Tarporley Community Centre on September 10 and raised a total of £2,694.16 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Guitar and trumpet player David Law said: `We played two hour-long sets and the audience never stopped dancing! Everyone seemed to have a really good night.

'We are really grateful to all the people that helped us on the night and in the run up to it - we couldn't have done this without them.'

He added: 'The only thing missing was our tenor and soprano saxophonist, Dom Tansley, who could not be there as he is travelling across India.'
