A BATTLING runner has proved she is Campion by name but a fundraising champion by nature.

Hospital switchboard operator Jodie Campion has just done her first ever half marathon in Chester, and was delighted to finish in two hours two minutes.

This achievement is pretty remarkable given that 28-year-old Jodie, from Great Sutton, has undergone nine operations in the last year.

She explained: 'My husband thought I wasn't right in the head, but I really wanted to put something back into the Countess of Chester because I received such excellent care during and after my operations.'

Jodie only started training in January and admits the event was tougher than she'd imagined. She was diagnosed with the painful condition endometriosis when she was just 19.

Since then she has had parts of both her bowel and bladder removed as well as undergoing a full hysterectomy.

Through her run, Jodie raised £178 for the Countess of Chester's B Positive Appeal and thanked all of her sponsors for their support.

Her next challenge is to set up a website to provide advice and support for others suffering from endometriosis, which she had found lacking when she was first diagnosed.
