A 14-YEAR-OLD boy caused £250 worth of damage to a village centre after a night drinking with friends, a court heard.

The teenager admitted breaking windows, part of a larger, 15-pane arched window, in the Willaston Community Centre.

Beverley Dobson, prosecuting, described how 10 panes were smashed by a gang of teenagers three days earlier, but the defendant returned, breaking four more.

The boy, appearing before South Cheshire Magistrates Court, Crewe, on Thursday, admitted one charge of destroying property.

He was accompanied in the court by two female social workers.

Stewart Bailey, defending, described how the teenager had been drinking before the incident, which took place on the evening of July 22.

He said: 'I asked him if he was upset or angry at the time, but he said he was not and it just seemed like a good idea at the time. It seems to be the effect of drink on a 14-year-old boy.'

Mr Bailey said the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, should be given credit for admitting he caused the damage.

He said: 'He has fully accepted his guilt and he is remorseful for what he has done.'

The youngster was given a 16-hour attendance centre order.
