NEARLY £200,000 could be spent on off-street parking throughout the borough.

Council chiefs are looking at a number of schemes, suggested by councillors and residents, across Ellesmere Port and Neston.

The initiatives, outlined to the highways committee for its consideration, would cost a total of £198,963.

They are:

* A programme of 39 individual parking bays across the borough, totalling £35,000.

This is a popular scheme, says the council. It would involve providing a drop kerb and vehicle crossing on the public highway and two rows of flags.

This improvement work generates a rent increase of between £2 and £4 a week per property.

* Spending £19,250 on creating 10 parking bays on Gawsworth Road, Great Sutton; £18,150 on six bays on Ruskin Drive, Wolverham; £18,150 on 10 bays on Winchester Avenue, Wolverham, and £15,400 on eight bays on Grappenhall Road, Great Sutton; £15,400 on eight bays in Pensby Drive after an open letter was sent by residents to the Pioneer; £15,125 on seven bays on a cul-de-sac off Overpool Road; £12,650

on six bays on Mill Green, Willaston; £12,650 on 10 bays on the green in Parklands, Little Sutton; £11,000 on six bays on Woodchurch Lane, Overpool; £8,525 on six bays off Atherton Road; £7,000 on four bays on Rugby Road, Wolverham; £6,538 on four bays on Hardy Close, Great Sutton; and £4,125 on three bays in the existing lay-by on Burns Close, Great Sutton.
