A CRACKDOWN on boozy bad behaviour has begun.

Community Action Team officers will be out in Vale Royal every weekend, targeting alcohol-related violence as part of Cheshire Constabulary's Crackdown on Crime campaign which began on Friday night.

Bobbies have devised operations to deal with alcohol issues specific to Winsford and Northwich and drinkers who cause problems will be dealt with firmly but fairly.

Police reported a quiet weekend in both towns, with no arrests made for disorder. A spokeswoman said: 'Licensing visits were made in Winsford and Northwich and alcohol was seized from youngsters in Rilshaw Lane, Wins-ford.

'The drugs dog was deployed in Northwich though no arrests were made for drugs offences. The dog will continue to be used in Northwich over the coming months.'

Stepped up, high-visibility patrols involving Special Constabulary officers, bobbies, council wardens and more will be continuing the crackdown over the coming weeks and Chief Inspector Craig Guildford said: 'Most people who socialise in town centres at weekends never cause any problems.

'Unfortunately, there are a few who cause misery to the majority with their offensive, anti-social, violent behaviour.

'The message to those people is clear - acts of violence and anti-social behaviour are criminal acts. Offenders should expect to receive fines or court sentences.'

Other steps being taken over the coming months include working with agencies such as Trading Standards in test purchase exercises at pubs, clubs and offlicenses, increased use of mobile CCTV vehicles, unannounced visits of licensed premises by the authorities, on-the-spot fines for drinkers who disobey anti-social behaviour rules and bylaws.

Members of the public are being urged to do their bit by drinking responsibly and keeping police informed of alcohol-related problems in their communities.
