CHESTER-BORN actor Daniel Craig is about to enter into a world of glamour, espionage and dry Martinis as the next James Bond.
He will be playing a tougher, grittier and darker Bond in Casino Royale, the 21st movie.
Craig was unveiled as the first blond Bond - the sixth altogether - on a Royal Marine speedboat on the Thames last Friday.
Craig said he was 'speechless' to have landed the job as successor to Pierce Brosnan.
He said: 'I had a couple of Martinis when I found out. I've been a Bond fan ever since I was a kid and I've got a big pair of shoes to step into after Pierce.
'It's a responsibility but it's also a huge adventure and I want to get as much out of it as I can.
'It's not a question of redefining Bond but taking it somewhere it's never been before.
'It's a huge challenge and I think life is all about challenges. It's one of the big ones as an actor. Bond is a hugely iconic figure in movie history. These things don't come along very often, so why not?'
Producers spent two years looking for their new Bond and saw more than 200 actors but Craig said he was always confident he would win the role.
He found out for certain on Monday while filming in the US.
