A PLAQUE has been unveiled in The Hammond School’s memorial garden, commemorating the life and contribution given by Betty Hassall.

Mrs Hassall was head of the Chester school from 1946–1980.

Present at the ceremony was William Bromley Davenport, Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire and President of The Hammond School, together with Dennis Hatfield CBE, chair of directors and Polly Dangerfield, current head of school.

Patrons of The Hammond Nick Brabner, nephew of Betty Hassall, and June Lancelyn-Green both spoke at the ceremony.

The Hammond School is celebrating its 90th anniversary during the academic year 2007-8 and will be opening a new performing arts centre next year.
