A BLOCK of flats exploded in Hoole in the early hours of this morning. (Friday July 17).
At 12.50am this morning police and fire crews were called to reports of an explosion and fire at Wharton Court, Hoole lane in Chester.
A Police spokesman said the two storey block which contains 16 flats was well alight when they arrived.
Two fire appliances arrived, followed by four more to deal with the blaze.
The fire had been preceded by an explosion which has damaged 95% of the building, leaving one side open to the elements
There are currently no reports of any casualties.
The blaze was extinguished at 4am. Fire investigators are currently at the scene trying to establish the cause of the explosion.
All residents were evacuated from the building.
Cheshire police have closed Hoole Lane between Wharton Court and the Boughton junction with the A51, and the road is to remain closed most of the day.
