A visit from the council’s Good Dog Ownership canine campaign mascot has inspired schoolchildren to create colourful posters asking people to pick up after their pet.

Pupils at St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School in Blacon held a poster competition and the lucky winners have seen their work displayed in frames on a special bin in Kipling Road outside the school.

Council officers from Regulatory Services organised the visit by Delilah, a Newfoundland , to spread the message about being a responsible dog owner.

Children in Year 4 also had a special presentation about litter and its consequences for the environment from officers from Streetscene.

Clean it up!

The winning designs were from Charlotte Price and Jacob Marciniuk. Charlotte’s slogan was ‘Look after your shoes, pick up doggy poos!’ and Jacob wrote ‘Mucky pup, clean it up!’.

Headteacher Nicola Kirkman said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from the opportunity to encourage responsible recycling and dog ownership in the community. Meeting Delilah the Newfoundland dog was an inspiring way to launch the project.”

Cheshire West and Chester Councillor Marie Nelson said: “The posters look wonderful. The children obviously worked very hard, thinking of creative slogans and designs to get their message across. Well done to everyone who took part in the competition.”
