A SEX offender pleaded guilty to possessing more than 20,000 indecent images of children in Chester.
Michael John McLean, of Ashmuir Close, Blacon, pleaded guilty to all 20 counts of possession of indecent images of children.
At Chester Crown Court on Monday (April 18) McLean supported himself with a walking stick as he listened to the charges dating back to 2009.
The 56-year-old former teacher admitted that between May 8 and December 12, 2009 he possessed and distributed 22,393 indecent images of children over the internet.
He pleaded guilty to multiple counts of using a website to distribute indecent images of children to others, alongside making and storing images.
Defending Richard Thomas asked for McLean's early plea to be taken into account during sentencing.
The Hon Recorder of Chester, Judge Elgan Edwards, said: “Some of the charges relate to the sending of emails with pictures attached and the distribution online as well.
“This makes the offence even more serious.”
On leaving the court McLean was instructed to register his details on the Sex Offenders Register and instructed not to use the internet except for personal banking and for professional purposes.
McLean was released on conditional bail until his sentencing on May 16 at Chester Crown Court.
