POLICE investigating an alleged child abduction in Blacon last week have said it was ‘nothing more than an innocent encounter’.

At about 7pm on Thursday evening (October 18) officers received reports that an eight-year-old girl was approached by two people on Stratford Road.

An investigation was launched but police have now confirmed they will not be taking further action on the case.

In a police statement, DI Gwyn Dodd said that officers have spoken to the girl to establish the circumstances of the incident and are now describing it as ‘an innocent encounter’.

“At no point was any criminal conduct established and at no point was there any physical contact between the child and the adult and nothing untoward appears to have taken place,” he explained.

“We are aware that rumours are circulating on the internet regarding this incident and we would like to reassure people that officers have carried out numerous enquiries throughout the day and no offences are apparent. “However, as part of those enquiries we would like to speak to the man and woman in question so we can close our investigation and we would urge them to make contact with us by calling 101 and quoting incident number 783 of October 18.”
