Children from Blacon Adventure Playground were treated to an elegant afternoon tea as thanks for creating a new garden resident for a care home.

Meridian Healthcare’s Lauren Court residents enjoyed tea and cakes with the youngsters while admiring a new scarecrow, named Callum, which now has pride of place in the garden.

After hearing that the care home wanted to brighten up their garden area, the scarecrow was made as part of the playground’s summer activities.

Callum the scarecrow

It was named after Callum Porter, aged nine, who requested the scarecrow wear glasses just like him.

He said: “We wanted the scarecrow to scare the birds away so the people in the home could play!”

Lauren Court’s care centre manager Julie Jagne added: “It was a lovely gesture for the children to create the scarecrow for our residents. The new addition will certainly put a smile on our residents’ faces when they are out in the garden.”
