Compassionate staff and students from Bishops’ High School in Chester raised hundreds of pounds from a 12-hour relay held in honour of a special little girl.
It’s not the first time people from the school have held fundraising events for three-year-old Erin Cross, the daughter of head of design technology Antony Cross.
So far, thousands have been raised for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, where Erin, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in December 2012, has received much treatment.
This year the funds raised are going direct to the research funds within the Oncology Unit at Alder Hey, in light of much important research taking place at Liverpool University which is being led by Erin's consultants.
Erin’s mum Sarah said: “Erin has gone through four intensive rounds of chemotherapy and is now on her maintenance treatment until April 2015. She is currently doing very well on her treatment and is due to start pre-school sessions properly in September of this year.
“On the day of the relay this year Erin was in the Countess of Chester Hospital having treatment for an infection, so unfortunately she was unable to attend.
“It was a shame because she really enjoyed meeting all the teachers at ast year’s relay.”
Sarah added: “Erin's treatment means we never know from one day to the next if she will be in hospital, so planning anything is difficult. “We have been lucky for a while because we have had a good few months without any overnight stay in hospital, until now.”
