HANDBELL ringers from Bishops’ Bluecoat CE High School have been to Germany to entertain people in Chester’s former twin town.

The youngsters spent five days in Lörrach under the leadership of their musical director, Derek Jackson.

The ringers took part in a school concert at the Freie Evangel ische Schule, a high school which has formed links with Bishops’.

After a day spent in the Black Forest with host families and an afternoon at the local open air swimming pool, the ringers joined the Vale Royal Singers for a concert at the Stadtkirche, a city centre church.

On Saturday the youngsters visited neighbouring Basle and on Sunday morning they joined the congregation of St Fridolin Church in Stetten, where they played the opening music for the service and the music at the offertory.

The team’s trip was financially supported by the Rotary Club of Chester and the Chester International Link Association (CILA).

Another group of Bishops’ students will return to Lörrach in November to work on a joint project designing a ‘Celebration of Remembrance’.
