A man killed in an accident on the A470 near Betws y Coed on Easter Sunday ran a Chester yarn shop, one of the largest in the UK.

Stephen Probert, who lived in Colwyn Heights, was killed when the motorbike he was riding crashed into a car at roughly 1.30pm on Sunday, April 5.

Mr Probert was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father-of-two ran Stash Fine Yarns, on Evans Business Centre, Minerva Avenue, near Sealand Road.

His partner Joanne Winder, who was a pillion passenger on the motorbike, also died of her injuries on Tuesday afternoon at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Ms Winder's step-mum Shirley Williams said the family was in a state of shock and described Ms Winder and Mr Probert as 'soul mates'.

She said: “They were so good together, I suppose at least they have gone together.”

The A470, popular with bikers travelling between Betws y Coed and Llanrwst, was closed in both directions after the crash.

Two people travelling in the car involved in the collision were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan with non life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “A detailed investigation is taking place and anyone who has any information regarding the incident is asked to call PC 611 Andrews at the Llandegai Roads Policing Unit on 101.”

Cheshire Constabulary will launch Operation Caeser, aimed at reducing motorcycle-related deaths and serious injuries, this Sunday (April 12).
