A SENIOR Tory claims Chester residents have reacted with dismay to the news the Government is announcing more Post Office closures in the city on November 5.

City councillor Stephen Mosley says it is estimated that another four post offices will be closed in the city, and this is on top of the eight that have closed since 1999.

Cllr Mosley said: ‘There are all sorts of rumours flying around about which post offices the Government will close.

‘We all need to get together to fight these plans which will be a disaster for many communities in Chester. The Government are planning to close these post offices very quickly – there will just be a six-week consultation period, so the quicker we start fighting to protect our post offices the better.’

Over the past few years Chester residents have seen the closure of post offices at Vicars Cross, Newton Kingsway, Cliveden Road in Lache and Garden Lane.

Cllr Mosley added: ‘Chester Conservatives are committed to protecting our local post offices and I’m sure that we will have the support of the community in our campaign.

‘The Government should do more to stimulate business for post offices to enable them to stay open.’
