PLANNERS have rejected an application for a takeaway in a Cheshire village following concerns from objectors.

An application was submitted for a change of use to turn the Creation Station cafe at the Old Fire Station, High Street, Malpas, into a hot-food outlet.

The scheme was knocked back because it was felt the takeaway would result in an unacceptable increase in noise, smell and disturbance to neighbouring properties which would be 'detrimental' to the residential amenity and be contrary to the adopted Chester District Local Plan.

Peter Miller, of MTP Town Planning, the agent for applicant Chuen Sing Lee of Shrewsbury, had tried to allay such fears.

He told The Chronicle there was a public car park nearby to prevent parking on the road, there would have been restrictions on opening times and an extraction system would have been installed.

Nicky Hulme, pictured, has run the Creation Station cafe, where people can decorate ceramics while enjoying a drink, since October 2002.

If given permission, she had aimed to branch out and set up a mobile business visiting schools, playgroups and parties at home.

She stressed the message was that the Creation Station was staying put for the time being.
