Beth Tweddle is seeing a psychologist as she continues along the ‘long road’ to recovery following her painful injury on The Jump.

The former Olympic gymnast, from Bunbury, was left with two fractured vertebrae when she hit a barrier while taking part in the Channel 4 winter sports TV show, and had to have neck surgery.

Beth revealed more about the ordeal on BBC’s The One Show.

The former Chester Queen’s School pupil said: “It’s hard to talk about about. I’m using a psychologist. I didn’t panic at the time. It was when I flew back to the UK.

“I realised the journey I’d have to go on – the recovery phase, rehab, surgeons, physics. People couldn’t realise how serious it was. I couldn’t even deal with it.”

This year’s show was marred by accidents with Linford Christie, Tina Hobley, Rebecca Adlington and Mark Francis also forced to withdraw from the competition after sustaining injuries.

Beth, 31, added: “It’s been a long road – rehab every day.”

Earlier this year, Beth attached a picture of her in a neck brace standing at the hospital window holding a vase full of flowers.

At the time, she wrote: “The medical staff here in Austria have been fantastic and I couldn’t have wished for better people to be around me at this time.”
