Olympic bronze medallist Beth Tweddle has helped launch a new funding scheme which will benefit sports clubs and organisations in Cheshire.

The triple world champion gymnast pledged her support for the Funds 4 Clubs scheme at an event at Chester Rugby Club in Littleton.

Members from more than 50 organisations turned out at the event.

The scheme, run by Walker Smith Way Legal, aims to give sports clubs, dance groups, school PTAs as well as Guides and Scouts the chance to receive financial rewards.

Organisations which sign up will receive a donation for each piece of legal work they or their members pass on to the firm.

Beth, who hails from Bunbury, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people at the event and to have such a warm welcome. A scheme such as Funds 4 Clubs is very important to encourage our youngsters to be active, healthy and embrace sports.

“I am very pleased to launch the scheme in Cheshire, North Wales and Merseyside and I am sure it will be a huge success.”

Louise Purcell, who administers the scheme in the region, said: “It was wonderful to have a huge amount of support on the night and so many clubs and organisations signing up. We were also delighted to have a sporting legend like Beth as our guest of honour. She is an incredible inspiration.

“The scheme is off to a flying start and we hope to get as many sports clubs, schools and organisations involved as possible in the coming months. Any club and group managers or leaders in the area are welcome to get in touch and find out more or sign up.”

Also speaking at the event was Angela Robson, of Preston City Trampoline Club which has benefited from the scheme in Preston.

She said: “Signing up was the best thing we ever did. We have already had nearly £2,000 from the scheme which has bought us new equipment and leotards for the girls, I would recommend it to anyone.”

Kathryn Moffitt, Great Britain canoe polo gold medallist, was also on hand to support the launch last Wednesday, June 18.
