STUDENTS at Chester University have been going mad for beans, as part of a recycling initiative.

Special tins of baked beans were given out to students by Cheshire West and Chester Council in a bid to raise awareness of recycling in the city. The winners, whose tins were chosen randomly at the Bumpers Lane recycling facility, were Sarah Bottomley and Zulflya Taylor. Each won vouchers to spend at Sainsbury’s supermarket.

“We wanted to find a way to encourage students to learn how to make the most of the city’s new waste collection service,” said Cllr Neil Ritchie, Lead Councillor for Environment.

He added: “So far, we’ve had a great response. Students are very environmentally aware and, armed with the necessary knowledge, I am sure they will make the most of the fantastic recycling facilities available to them.”
