BBC RADIO 2 presenter Chris Evans has chosen Cholmondeley as the venue for the North West leg of his new charity motor festival.

The disc jockey searched the region for a suitable place to hold CarFest North, a motoring extravaganza which raises money for BBC Children in Need, before announcing earlier this week that he had decided to hold it at the Cholmondeley Estate.

Evans, a keen car fanatic, sold out of tickets in just one day for his original event, Car Fest South, which is to be held at Hampshire’s Laverstoke Park at the end of August.

But he decided to add an extra event in the North West to raise even more money for the charity.

The two day family event will descend on the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle during the weekend of September 8-9, hot on the heels of the Pageant of Power, another large-scale motorsport extravaganza, which will be hosted at the venue in June.

CarFest will feature an impressive collection of modern and classic supercars, a food festival, a hillclimb, static displays, family activities, and performances from bands including Texas, who will headline on the Saturday, and Razorlight on the Sunday.

The idea for the festival was the brainchild of Evans, who decided to take his mind off giving up bread for Lent by spending the 40 days organising the event.

Pageant of Power director James Hall said: “When Chris mentioned plans for CarFest North on his breakfast show, I knew we had to show him what Cholmondeley had to offer.

“Being chosen to host CarFest North is just fantastic and cements our reputation as the home of high-octane action in the North of England.”

And the DJ himself added: “We checked out a number of amazing venues in the North West but feel that Cholmondeley ticks all the right boxes.

“Not only is it a well known venue for petrol heads but the setting is just beautiful and provides the ideal backdrop for the fantastic family focused weekend we are pulling together.”
