Following delays on the A55 earlier on Bank Holiday Monday, there was also heavy congestion on the M56.
Traffic has now eased, but it was stop-start near to junction 15 eastbound just after 5pm on May 30.
Drivers heading home from North Wales and Cheshire Oaks met at the junction where the M56 merges with the M53.
The queue heading towards Manchester stretched as far back as J16 where the motorway becomes the A494.
No accidents have been reported.
