MUSIC lovers were in their element when Widnes played host to a live band event.

Rec'd All Day, now a keenly anticipated fixture in the borough's annual music calendar, saw the biggest line-up yet seen in the event's five-year history.

This year Rec'd was held at The Village, Appleton, instead of Widnes recreation club.

The fun kicked off at 1pm with a performance by the Halton Samba Band and live acts performed until 1am.

Among the 18 bands playing were new bands The Reverbs, 11 Reasons, Noah's Arcade, Duty Paid and One Track Mind.

The afternoon saw North playing their second Rec'd festival, along with SwingTimeStig, Livo and local favourites The Chimps.

The Odds and Big Mouse played in the early evening followed by Outl4w, who recently appeared on Top of the Pops.

There were also performances of tunes by Greg Oldfield and Tom Hingley of the Inspiral Carpets.

Other bands included the Pond Dwellers while Zen Baseballbat played at Rec'd for the first time.

And Widnes band The Chimneys, winner of Mersey Rock and a host of other recent competitions, wowed the crowds.

Organiser Graeme Scragg said: 'With so much entertainment packed into one day, it was one of the best Rec'd All Day yet. All proceeds from the event are being donated to Clatterbridge Cancer Research Trust.'
