THE Bache Post Office in Upton will be closed for refurbishment from today (Monday, July 15).

The new-look post office is due to reopen on Friday, July 26 at 1pm.

The branch at 17 Mill Lane, Upton, Chester, is to be refurbished to create a more modern environment for customers as well as providing significantly increased opening hours.

As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend the opening hours for customers, the Bache Post Office will now have three serving positions.

These will be a mixture of two screened counter positions with a Post Office serving point at the retail counter - a new concept for delivering Post Office services with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.

While the work takes place alternative Post Offices in that area include:

Upton Heath Post Office, 159 Long Lane, Upton

Northgate Street Post Office, 122 Northgate Street, Chester.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales and West England, Tony Jones, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

He added: “The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Following the changes Post Office products and services will be available Monday-Saturday 6.30am-5.30pm and Sunday 8am-noon.

This is an increase of 24 hours a week and will see the branch open seven days a week.

The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches.

It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
