YOUNG West Cheshire College students undertaking vocational courses during their final two years of school have been presented with awards for their work.

Each year a small number of 14 to 16-year-olds opt to spend part of their time at the College on a variety of vocational courses, some of which include weekly work experience, in addition to their school-based GCSEs.

To mark the commitment and success of the young people involved, a special awards ceremony was held at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall to mark their achievement.

Senior Schools Liaison Officer Judi Dodd said: "The range of study options available to young people in Year 10 and 11 is now much wider than ever before and the College is able to offer a range of more vocational options."

"College is a very different environment to school and the learning style is different too so it’s quite a big undertaking for the young people who choose this route."

"But year after year we are amazed by the determination, commitment and achievement of the students who join us and are delighted to be able to reward their success."

Vocational learning on offer to 14 to 16-year-olds includes Retail, Hairdressing and Beauty, Engineering, Construction, Public Services, Hospitality and Catering or Health and Social Care, either through the Young Apprentice’s or School Link’s Programme.
