Drivers are advised to avoid the area near the Grosvenor Bridge in Chester following concerns for the welfare of a man.

Emergency services including police, ambulance and fire engines have been on the scene since 2.40pm today (Wednesday, May 25) and remain there as they deal with the incident.

UPDATE: Man airlifted to hospital after being removed from River Dee

Cheshire Fire and Rescue tweeted they were assisting police and ambulance in rescuing a man from the water.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson has advised drivers to avoid the area.
