ANYONE who missed part two of the Chester Mystery Plays because of rain will have their tickets replaced, say play organisers.

Wednesday night’s performance of The Fulfilment had to be halted after 20 minutes as rain stopped microphones working and turned the Cathedral Green set into a quagmire.

Musical director Matt Baker said: “We have had a bit of rain most nights and the cast have performed through it, but tonight just before the Raising of Lazarus the rain became so torrential that it was a health and safety risk and the microphones were affected.

“The cast only stopped because they were ordered to – one audience member said to me that you would have thought they were performing under a hot Mediterranean sun if you couldn’t see the rain falling so hard.”

Chairman of the Mystery Plays Board, Jo Sykes said: “We will do everything we can to give tonight’s audience replacement tickets on another night.

“Tonight’s audience can call the box office to arrange this, but we would ask them please to be patient and give the box office time to organise this mammoth task as they are also doing the tickets for Chester Races this weekend.”
