A man believed to be wielding a hammer attempted to rob a chemist in Ellesmere Port .

The 30-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident in Stanney Lane on Thursday night (October 27).

It was the second serious report in just over an hour after an earlier burglary in the town.

A call was made to police about a burglary in Blackstairs Road at 7.57pm.

There was nobody in the address at the time and a 20-year-old man from Ellesmere Port has been arrested.

Reports of the armed robbery came in at 9.06pm.

Cheshire Police said they believed the attacker was carrying a hammer and he did not manage to get away with any money.

The 30-year-old man from Ellesmere Port was quickly arrested after officers searched the area.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police arrested two men following separate reports of a burglary and an attempted robbery in Ellesmere Port last night.

“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

“Officers also arrested 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.”
