Police are investigating after a man suffered a broken jaw when he was punched while travelling down the escalator in the Ellesmere Port Asda store.

Officers are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry into the assault which occurred at about 2.50pm on Saturday, February 20.

The victim, a 32-year-old local man, was punched in the face while travelling down the escalator in the Whitby Road store. The victim was treated in hospital for a broken jaw.

Police say the offender, who was with two other men at the time, is described as a white male with short dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark trousers with a blue/grey polo shirt.

Officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry, including examining CCTV footage recovered from the store.

A member of the public who contacted The Chronicle described the attack as a vicious assault on someone they claimed was originally from Slovakia. The informant claimed the victim sustained a double fracture of the jaw and had to spend three days in hospital.
