ASHTON Hayes Theatre Club members gained starring roles at the Cheshire Theatre Guild Awards.

Following their production of The Crucible, the amateur actors received five gongs at the ceremony, hosted by Frodsham Community Centre.

Phillip Law, 15, won Best Young Performer in a Senior Production; Yvette Owen and Stephanie Lemmy won The Chronicle Cup for Best Director and The Crucible won Best Overall Production runner-up.

Mike Howard, as Danforth, also received nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Dramatic Achievement.

A club spokesman said: “All in all, Ashton Hayes Theatre Club is very proud of this achievement especially as Yvette and Stephanie are fairly new to directing and they had a large number of newcomers performing.

“The Crucible managed to scoop the most nominations and the most awards for any single production. Ashton Hayes Theatre Club’s next production will be Alan Aykbourne’s The Jollies at Tarvin Community Centre in November.”
