MORE than 40 historic banners are going on display at Englesea Brook Chapel at Oakhanger and Mow Cop Methodist Church.

The hanging of the banners marks the 200-year anniversary of Primitive Methodism, which originated at Mow Cop. Englesea Brook Chapel Museum is also involved as it boasts the largest collection of religious banners in the country.

Children from St Mary's RC Primary School in Crewe were invited to participate in the banner project set by the museum's education officer Margaret Veal. They have been carefully designing a banner to be hung in the museum.

The children will display their banner design at a service to be held at Mow Cop Methodist Church on Palm Sunday, April 1, at 2.30pm.
