A BUDDING Widnes dancer is set to follow in the footsteps of the town's most famous performing artist, Melanie Chisholm, after he landed a placement and scholarship at a distinguished arts college.
Matthew Gregory, 18, was offered the chance to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in Kent after he successfully auditioned for a place on the competitive course in January.
The college has primed the likes of Sporty Spice Mel C, a former pupil at Fairfield High, and Matthew is hoping to emulate his fellow Widnesian.
Matthew, an old boy of Bankfield High, only started learning dance two years ago after completing his scholarship at a college in Sidcup, but he has shown enough talent in this short time to be rewarded with a place on the course.
During his studies he embraced a variety of styles including contemporary tap, jazz and ballet.
Matthew hopes to pursue a career in musical theatre after his studies.
