A MUCH-LOVED park will soon be transformed into a living work of art with sculptures made of flowers and poetry decorating bird boxes.

As the summer sun encourages families out to picnic and children out to play, the grass behind Castle Parks Arts Centre in Frodsham will be filled with floral arches as roses bloom on wooden ladders.

And children can solve poetry puzzles while birds nest in the park’s trees in specially designed bird boxes decorated with riddles written by Frodsham residents.

Designed by poet and artist Alec Finlay, the artwork was installed after volunteers worked hard to clear and tidy the park behind the centre known as the ‘hidden gem of Frodsham’.

The Mayor of Frodsham Cllr Andrew Dawson said: “The trestles for climbing rose plants creates a beautiful natural gateway for people to walk through.”

Frank Birkenhead, chairman of the trustees for Castle Park Arts Centre, added: “We now have outdoor works which will have year round interest and hopefully will inspire children, mums and dads and show visitors that art comes in many forms.

“We are grateful to the funders of the project, Will to Work, Alec Finlay for his creative imagination, Cheshire West and Chester Council for their support and the Arts Centre volunteers.”
