A FEROCIOUS blaze which ripped through a former Chester school in the early hours of Saturday morning is believed to have been started deliberately.

Crews have now left the scene after spending the entire day tackling the fire at the former Ridings Infants School in Rake Way, Saughall and the blaze now appears to be out.

But building control staff have been requested on site because some of the building's remaining walls are unsafe.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire officers and Cheshire police but it is believed that the act was started deliberately.

The remains of the building are expected to be demolished over the next few days.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is urged to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
