RAIL passengers coming into Chester were scanned and searched for knives and drugs.
British Transport Police and Cheshire Constabulary officers used airport-style equipment and drugs sniffer dogs in the spot check.
One person was arrested for carrying a 6in lock knife and another person was arrested for carrying drugs. A further five people were cautioned for drugs and public order offences.
Fifty passengers were put through the scanners and 40 passengers were picked out by a sniffer dog as having used or come into contact with drugs in the recent past, although this could include prescription drugs.
Insp Mike Sutton, of Crewe British Transport Police, said: “The main thrust of these operations is to take people off the rail system who are travelling around with offensive weapons.
“These operations are always intelligence-led and we wanted to target people travelling from Crewe, Merseyside and North Wales into Chester.
“It also provides reassurance for other passengers – a lot of people came across to say how pleased they were to see us working at the station.”
