ST MARTIN’S Academy Chester has got its sights set firmly on the future after celebrating an overwhelming amount of applications to join its first reception class in September.

The team behind the new free school, due to open with 25 pupils in Hoole later this year, is already planning for 2014 by inviting registrations of interest for future pupils, including those in older year groups.

Head of school, Wenda Smith, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the level of interest and parental support that St Martin’s has received throughout the application process and we’ve been equally encouraged by the number of people already asking us about our plans for September 2014.

“We have always said that we are a school that will respond to the needs of local families and with this in mind we are now taking expressions of interest from all parents with children of primary school wishing to join us in September 2014.

“Any growth in our school family with be carefully planned, with communication between ourselves and parents and carers at the heart of everything we do but we are certainly excited about what the future holds for St Martin’s.”

Parents and children that have already applied for a place and those interested in joining St Martin’s in the future are invited to an informal ‘meet our head of school’ event to be held at The Ice Cream Farm, Newton Lane, Tattenhall, on Wednesday, February 13, from 12-1.30pm.

The event is free and includes refreshments for adults and children but St Martin’s will offer parents the chance to make a small donation to a local charity which the school will then match-fund.
